meet the ARTIST

nemo chen (陈薪旭) is a visual artist focused on image-making, integrating photography, visual communication, and artificial intelligence through an experimental practice. She describes her creative process as a “game of pixels,” using the reconfiguration, simulation, and intervention of image mechanisms to challenge the assumed objectivity of images as documentary media. Her work begins with observation and reflection on social reality, examining how structural forces permeate and shape people’s lives, relationships, emotions, identities, and conditions, and how individuals identify, preserve, and reconstruct an inner order amid constantly shifting external forces.

Since graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she has continued her practice in Los Angeles. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the PhotoVogue Festival in Milan, CICA Museum in South Korea, Zhou B Art Center in Chicago, Epoch Art Museum, Lishui Photography Festival, and Beijing 798 Art District in China. Her series have been selected for The Artling’s Surrealist Photography Collection. Her projects and interviews have been featured in outlets such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and The UNESCO Courier.
